Fortis Hospital in Mohali has offered free medical treatment to Indian death row prisoner in Pakistan — Sarabjit Singh. Sarabjit was attacked inside the jail premises on April 26.
His family members have pleaded that he be brought to India for immediate medical treatment. “With its state-of-the-art medical facilities, highly trained doctors, complimented with modern equipment and advanced intensive care setup, Fortis Hospital Mohali has the wherewithal to extend all possible medical assistance to Sarabjit,” said Dr Gurbir Singh, the Medical Director at Fortis Hospital Mohali. Col HS Chehal, Regional Director, stated, “Given the victim’s fragile condition, we will make suitable arrangements for Sarabjit to be transported from Attari to Mohali in the least time possible, provided the necessary permission to treat him in India, as requested by his family — is accorded by the authorities. The geographical proximity is an important criterion since his treatment is a ‘challenge’. Therefore, every moment is precious.”
The Head of Critical Care at Fortis Hospital Mohali, Dr Amit Mandal, said, “Reports suggest he has suffered a critical bone fracture. We have excellent medical professionals who can offer expert critical care and surgical, neurosurgical and neurological treatment once the patient is brought in.”
