Under vigilance scanner in a disproportionate assets case, Punjab’s former Minister and BJP leader Gurpreet Singh Kangar was stopped from flying abroad from the New Delhi International Airport in the wake of a lookout circular (LOC) issued against him in connection with the vigilance inquiry. The vigilance official made it clear that the Former Minister has not been arrested yet.

Kangar, a former Power and Revenue Minister and now Punjab BJP general secretary, was not allowed to board a flight to Montreal in Canada from the IGI airport in Delhi on Sunday night at around 9 pm as a LOC has been issued against him, and returned from the airport.

Vigilance officials stated that the former minister has been skipping the summons for personal appearance before the Vigilance Bureau office at Bathinda despite being summoned a number of times which was why, the LOC was issued against him.

Notably, Kangar had initially joined the vigilance inquiry at Bathinda, but has been dodging the summons for the past some time.

Carrying out the probe in the disproportionate assets case, the Vigilance Bureau has gathered all the details regarding Kangar’s movable and immovable properties acquired by him and his family members during the erstwhile Congress government — from 2017 to 2022.

Kangar was Revenue Minister in the previous Congress government led by Capt Amarinder Singh but was dropped from the Cabinet in September 2021 in the Congress government led by Charanjit Singh Channi, after the change of guard in the state. After losing the state assembly elections in 2022, Kangar went on to join the BJP.
