Punjab Government is all set to launch a scheme to construct one and two bedroom flats on the shamlat (village common) land in rural areas. The land for the construction of flats would be provided by the State Rural Development and Panchayat Department and the construction will be carried out by the Housing Department.
“It would be an open scheme for general public as anybody can take its benefit. There would be no income limit or any such condition for allotment,” said the State Rural Development and Panchayat Minister Sikander Singh Maluka. He said that the scheme is launched to provide a city-like accommodation to the villages. The flats will be provided on subsidised rates and on installments for a period of 25 to 30 years, he added. Maluka said that the State’s rural public is ready to provide shamlat land for the construction.
