Punjab Government on Friday claimed that the State will be “powercut free” with the first unit of 1980 mega watt (MW) Talwandi Sabo Power limited (TSPl) becoming operational besides adding 660 MW to the national grid.
Besides, Punjab State Power Corporation limited has already tied up power from all available sources to meet anticipated demand of 10,000 MW (2200 lakh units) per day during the month of June and July.
“The first unit of the 700 MW super-critical (2x700 MW) Rajpura thermal power plant has also became operational on trial bases. Besides, the third power project — GVK’s Goindwal plant will be operational very shortly as the coal supply issue has been resolved,” said an official spokesperson. It has been claimed that the Talwandi Sabo thermal plant would “provide cheapest power to the state for years to come.” “The largest and green power plant in the state, Talwandi Sabo plant has added more than 12 million units of power on Thursday itself,” he added.
Spokesperson said that Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal, who is also Power Minister, had already directed all chief engineers to provide uninterrupted and good quality power supply to all categories of consumers.
“Sukhbir has also directed PSPCl chairman KD Chaudhri to set up round-the-clock single dedicated helpline from next week on the lines of 181 to redress the grievances of consumers,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Punjab power utilities — Punjab State Power Corporation limited (PSPCl) — has set up 24X7 nodal complaint centres in each division for the
convenience of consumers in the State.
Besides, the State Government has also ordered all the Deputy Commissioners (DCs) to closely monitor whether farmers are receiving the allocated eight hours power supply for the paddy season.
In case discrepancies are identified, the DCs have been asked to submit a report to the state government.
The state government has requested the consumers to register electricity supply related complaints or obtain Power Supply related information from phone numbers of concerned Area or Sub Division from the respective complaint centres.
