Director and the Deputy Director of Punjab Engineering College (PEC), have landed in a soup, after a case of sexual assault was lodged against the duo on Friday.

The victim in her complaint has alleged that PEC’s deputy director AM Kalra, a professor in the civil engineering department, has sexually harassed her in the year 2010. She also named Manoj Datta in her complaint for not taking appropriate action after the matter was reported.

Ashish Kapoor, DSP Chandigarh police, confirmed that a case under Section 354A of Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against both senior officials of PEC. He said, “We are investigating the matter and will take a suitable action once the investigations are complete”, said Kapoor.

The victim had filed a written complaint of sexual assault last year at the public window of police headquarters at Sector 9. However, it took a year for the police department to lodge a former FIR.

The victim has also alleged that instead of taking action against Kalra, she was pressurized by Manoj Datta, to take her complain back.

Kalra, on the other hand has a dubious reputation. Female, staffs and students of the institute has also faced harassment from him. A case of sexual assault is pending against him in the court.

This case was filed by one of the female student, in which she has leveled allegations against the professor, for making obscene gestures and using sexually explicit words.

Kalra who is a widower, tried to lure the student by offering her important official positions and repeatedly summoned her to his office, in the guise of horoscope consultation to gain proximity.
