leader of Opposition in Haryana Assembly and INlD’s senior leader Abhay Singh Chautala on Friday announced that party leaders and workers along with the people of the State will reach Ambala on February 23 to start digging of the Sutlej Yamnuna link (SYl) canal.
“The INlD workers and people of Haryana will reach Ambala Sabzi Mandi, from where they will be led by party leaders to proceed towards the Haryana–Punjab border between Karpuri and Ismailpur village to start digging of SYl,” said Chautala while talking to the mediapersons here.
On not getting permission from the district administration to hold a rally at the new vegetable market in Ambala, Abhay Chautala said that the State Government is hatching a conspiracy to stop us from digging SYl canal.
“But, we do not need their permission to dig up SYl canal and would do so on February 23. As far as traffic management is concerned, the district administration has the responsibility to ensure this as a large number of people will gather at Ambala on this day” he added.
INlD, Haryana’s main opposition party has made SYl a major issue in the state following last year’s Apex Court directions in favour of Haryana on this issue. The INlD had held Jan Jagran Abhiyan across the state to muster people’s support for digging of SYl canal.
Former Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala, who is out of jail on four weeks parole has also made an appeal to the party workers to gear up for SYl digging on February 23. INlD chief OP Chautala is serving 10-year jail term in a teachers' recruitment scam case.
The BJP and Congress, on the other hand, have criticized INlD to use the emotive issue of SYl canal to fulfil its political motives.
Taking a dig at INlD, Haryana Cabinet Minister Anil Vij on Friday said that we will welcome if the INlD is able to construct SYl though it is only a politically motivated move by the opposition.
Former Chief Minister and Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda has termed the INlD’s decision as drama. Hooda also alleged that the current mess related to SYl canal was because of former CM OP Chautala who had refused to protect Haryana's interest during his tenure in Haryana,
Meanwhile, INlD leader Abhay Chautala also levelled corruption allegations against the ruling BJP and said that we have proof against the BJP leaders and we will release it in the future.
Continuing his tirade against the BJP led Haryana Government, Chautala said that it is a corrupt government and even a BJP MlA has levelled corruption charges against his own government.
Notably, BJP MlA from Gurugram, Umesh Aggarwal has alleged that metro routes in Gurugram have been changed and cited corruption being the main reason behind the decision.
Abhay Chautala alleged that the metro routes have been changed to give benefits to some companies in the state.
He added that the INlD will raise all these issues in the budget session of Haryana Assembly starting from February 27.
