Farmers in Jhajjar district, which is a part of Rohtak Parliamentary Constituency being represented by Deepender Hooda in lok Sabha, are up in arms against ‘lethargic’ attitude of the State Government for awarding them compensation for their damaged crop.
Annoyed over this ‘irresponsible’ act of the Government, the farmers under the aegis of Akhil Bhartiya Kisan Sabha Haryana on Tuesday not only held a demonstration at mini secretariat in Jhajjar but also submitted a memorandum of their demands in the name of the Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda to the district authorities.
They also shouted slogans against the State Government for allegedly committing discrimination against the farmer fraternity. Earlier, while addressing the farmers, Jai Prakash Beniwal, district president of the Kisan Sabha, said acute resentment prevailed among farmers of Jhajjar district against the Government as it had failed to award them compensation for their damaged rabi crops even after two months.
“Farmers have been taking rounds of Government offices to get the compensation for last two months but no one is ready to help them. In this situation, they donot have other option left but to protest the Government’s functioning,” said Beniwal, adding that Rs 27 crore as compensation was to be distributed among the farmers for their damaged crop.
The farmer leader said the farmers had run from pillar to post for getting their grievances redressed but to no avail. Every one expressed the sympathy with the farmers and also promised them to get their due right done but the result was zero every time, he added. “But now we will not sit calmly and will take our right at any cost,” said Beniwal.
The farmers have also threatened the State Government to intensify their agitation campaign if it does not dole out the compensation amount soon. Preet Singh, Balwan Singh, Om Prakash Kadian, Hawa Singh, Rajender Singh Godhadi, Maha Singh Dalal and Krishan Dhaud were among those who spoke on the occasion.
