Farmers' agitation is ‘totally political’now: OP Dhankar

Published on:

Haryana BJP chief OP Dhankar on Monday alleged that the ongoing farmers’ agitation against three central farm laws has become “totally political” and has left its original agenda behind.

“Be it the statements of Rajewal ji or Ugrahan (farmers leaders). It is evident now that the farmers had started with a specific agenda which they have left behind now. They have political ambitions and want to contest elections,” Dhankar said while talking to the mediapersons here.

“The government has kept its doors open for farmers even today for talks,” he added

Dhankar said that the BJP government in Haryana is working for the welfare and upliftment of farmers. If they (protesting farmers' unions) want to do welfare of farmers, they should ensure it in neighboring Punjab and Rajasthan also. We are giving maximum compensation to farmers, they should get the same in Punjab too.

They should ensure Bajra is procured at the same rate in Rajasthan as done in Haryana,” he added. Commenting on lathicharge on farmers in Karnal last month, the BJP state chief said that the State Government is functioning with patience and it is our priority that no incident of confrontation takes place. Even those who are protesting should stay within their limits, he said.

20 lakh letters of appreciation to be sent to PM Modi

Dhankar while giving details of programmes to be organised by the party’s state unit coinciding with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday celebrations said that 20 lakh letters written by beneficiaries of various central schemes expressing their gratitude will be sent to the PM.

He said that at least 100 such letters of gratitude will be collected from  20000 booths each as part of the “Thank you campaign” for the Prime Minister.

Apart from this, the party state unit will plant 71,000 saplings in the state on the occasion of 71st birthday of PM Modi on September 17, he said.
