Haryana Congress on Sunday slammed the move of the banks to recover loans from the farmers despite specific announcement made by the Chief Minister Manohar lal Khattar, on the floor of the Assembly.
The Chief Minister had said that the crop loans of farmers who suffered losses on account of the unseasonal rains and hailstorms would be converted into short-term loans and payment rescheduled. later, he repeated this at a rally in Badhra village in Bhiwani on April 6, 2015, alleged Kiran Choudhry, leader of the Haryana Congress legislature Party.
In a statement issued here, the former Excise and Taxation Minister said, “When the banks had agreed to reschedule the loans though with certain conditions, why should they launch a campaign to recover them. Recovery officials are visiting the farmers and notices are being issued to them asking for payment of the outstanding loans,” she said.
“There seems to be some communication gap between the Khattar Government and the banks. The former should immediately take up the matter with the latter, convey in writing the decision on crop loans, and spare the farmers any further harassment. Having suffered huge losses, they need help, not harassment,” Choudhry added.
