Haryana Government on Sunday claimed that the infant mortality rate (IMR) in the State has reduced to 28 from 41 in 2013. Similarly, maternal mortality rate (MMR) was 146 as per census 2011 and a target has been set to bring it down to 80. According to the Sample Registration System (SRS) report released in 2014, the IMR in Haryana was 41 per 1,000 live births while it was 42 per 1,000 live births as per Sample Registration System (SRS) 2012.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar lal on Sunday said that the Health Report Card of any country could be assessed by its statistics of Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) and Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR). Apart from this, implementation of programmes  like pulse polio immunization for polio eradication also play a significant role in reflecting the health status of the country.

Haryana Government has planned to set up 22 Sick Newborn Care Units (SNCUs) in 18 districts of the state and had last year signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with National Neonatology Forum (NNF) for training of doctors and staff nurses working in SNCU, the facility based newborn care. Notably, the NHRC had last year issued a notice to Haryana Government over the increase in the IMR in the State due to deficiency of iron and poor nutrition among pregnant women.
