Eyeing 10 LS seats in Hry, AAP starts search for probable candidates

Eyeing 10 Lok Sabha seats in Haryana, the Aam Aadmi Party has begun process for searching probable candidates for next year’s polls.

The AAP has initiated the process to shortlist the candidates for Lok Sabha polls and has invited applications from the general public. A search committee has also been constituted to shortlist the candidates which will be further finalized after a public survey and decision of AAP’s central leadership.

“The party is geared up for Lok Sabha polls. Anyone can submit an application to contest elections on AAP’s ticket. But the key criteria for selection of candidates is that they should be with clean image and without any criminal record,” said Naveen Jaihind, party’s state chief while talking to the mediapersons here.

Jaihind said that the applications will be received throughout October. After this, the search will scrutinize the applications. A public survey will be conducted to finalize the party candidates for 10 Lok Sabha seats in Haryana, he said.

Earlier, this year, AAP’s convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had announced that his party will contest on all 90 assembly seats and 10 Lok Sabha seats in 2019 elections in Haryana.

After tasting defeat at the hustings in the previous Lok Sabha polls from Haryana, the AAP had not contested the October 2014 assembly elections in the state. In the previous parliamentary polls held in 2014, AAP had lost on all 10 Lok Sabha seats in Haryana and most of its candidates had finished at fourth or fifth position.

The AAP has promised to improve schools, hospitals, electricity facility and work for upliftment of farmers and weaker sections, if voted to power in Haryana.

The party has been undertaking ‘Haryana Jodo Campaign’ in a big way to connect to the general public besides strengthening party's base at the booth level.
