With an eye on ensuing Lok Sabha election, the Rajya Sabha MP and the former Union Minister Ambika Soni would give a boost to the Punjab Government’s flagship initiative — Mission Tandarust Punjab.

She will distribute material in the form of gym for youth besides initiating other necessary works worth Rs five crore aimed at development of villages as well as towns on March 5 at Khatkar Kalan village, said the state Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi. Khatkar Kalan, the ancestral village of great martyr Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh falls under the Sri Anandpur Sahib parliamentary constituency, from where Soni unsuccessfully contested 2014 Lok Sabha elections against SAD’s Prem Singh Chandumajra.

With Soni not willing to contest election this time, reports are that her son may be fielded from the seat.

Sodhi said that Soni would give Rs five crores from her MP-LAD (Local Area Development) fund for the purpose of establishing gym for youth, and installation of solar lights and CCTV cameras in the villages and towns.

“Similarly, Soni would also distribute animal ambulances to the villages and towns,” said Sodhi adding that the beginning would be made from the ancestral village of the greatest youth icon Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh — Khatkar Kalan (Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar). The real tribute to Shaheed Bhagat Singh would be to create a society as envisioned by the martyr,” he said.

Sodhi also elaborated that the Mission Tandarust Punjab was started  by the Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh in order to make Punjab green, prosperous, healthy and robust as well as pollution free.

“I am thankful to the Rajya Sabha MP Ambika Soni for deciding to undertake development centric works worth Rs five crore for the benefit of Punjab. Soni’s this step would take the Mission Tandarust Punjab up by several notches,” he said.
