Existing schools network to be strengthened: Himachal CM

Published on:

Himachal Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh on Wednesday emphasised on consolidating the existing schools of the State and create adequate infrastructure for them rather than opening new schools except in the remote and tribal areas.

Inaugurating the newly constructed block of Government Senior Secondary School, Chotta Shimla completed with an outlay of Rs 10.50 crore, here, the Chief Minister said that the new schools were either opened or upgraded after conducting a proper survey and not in haste after taking into account the distance and strength of the students, barring few far-flung and remote areas where these were opened keeping in consideration the hard topography of that area.

Virbhadra Singh said that enough had been achieved in the field of education with the State ranking second after Kerela in terms of literacy in the country. “I think many schools have been opened and we have reached the saturation point, adding that the stage of expansion has been achieved and now the existing schools would be rationalised and consolidated”, he

said.

The Chief Minister said new schools would now only be opened in those areas  where the Government feels a dire need to do the same, adding that time was not far when every school in the remotest area would have a school atleast to provide basic education to the children at their very door-step.
