After an inordinate delay, the Executive Committee of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee was finally constituted on Monday after the jumbo list got the approval of Congress President Sonia Gandhi.
Trying to do a balancing act and keeping in view the regional aspirations of the leaders from the three regions of the State — Malwa, Doaba and Majha, 14 Vice Presidents have been appointed. This is perhaps one of the largest contingent of Vice Presidents the Executive Committee ever had. Besides, there are 35 General Secretaries, 61 Secretaries and one Treasurer to help PPCC President Partap Singh Bajwa ahead of the lok Sabha elections. The Executive Committee has 148 names and in addition, there are 34 permanent invitees to the Executive Committee.
In his customary note, Bajwa expressed gratitude to Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Vice President Rahul Gandhi and AICC General Secretary in charge Shakeel Ahmad for accepting his recommendations for the PPCC Executive Committee. Bajwa claimed that every section of society had got representation in the PPCC executive and party workers at grass root level have been adjusted. He said that with the new list of office bearers, the party would get a boost and face the political challenges with enthusiasm. He called upon all party workers to get ready for the lok Sabha elections. He said he was satisfied with the formation of PPCC Executive Committee which has been formed after due deliberations.
