Environment not conducive for Indo-Pak talks: Rajnath

The “possibility” of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh holding talks with his Pakistan counterpart during his upcoming New York visit failed to find favour with the BJP.

Opposing the possibility, BJP president Rajnath Singh indicated that the environment for the same is not conducive, and the Government should not show “hurry” in holding talks with them. Rather, Singh opined that the Government should opt for “diplomatic or economic options”. He also sought Prime Minister’s clarification on Congress-led UPA Government’s stand on Pakistan, and “what message the Government intends to give to Pakistan if the talks are held”.

“The Government is not reacting to Pakistan’s repeated ceasefire violations in the manner it should be. Pak has violated ceasefire for over 100 times. Moreover, it is not building enough international pressure against it to force it to desist from such activities,” said Singh.

He pointed out that when Mumbai terror attack happened, the Government had stated that it would hold no talks with Pakistan till it act against those involved in terror activities, but still the talks were held.
