Punjab Chief Electoral Officer VK Singh on Friday issued directions to the field staff to ensure meticulous revision of electoral rolls as per the guidelines of the Election Commission of India (ECI).
He said that the entire election machinery is geared up to take the task of revising of electoral rolls all over the State. September has been officially dedicated to achieve 100 per cent targets for this program, he said.
Singh said that electoral rolls are given to all political parties free of cost and will be made available to block level officers (BlOs), tehsil office and Deputy Commissioner (DC) office of the respective districts. Besides, these rolls are also available online on the Punjab CEO website, he said.
He added that the voters, especially the youth who were going to vote for the first time, needed to be encouraged to search their name and apply if they have to register or make corrections.
“To attract attention of the first-time voters away from pokemon, bikes and other games, Singh said that some catchy radio jingles and videos have been devised besides launching a massive advertisement campaign to make young people aware of their voting rights and duty to register their names,” he said.
Making a fervent appeal to the general public and all the political parties, Singh urged them to assist officials working for this purpose so that all eligible voters can be registered before the ensuing general elections in the state.
