Demanding parity of status with PCS and IAS officers, the Engineers of Punjab on Tuesday resolved that there should be parity of engineers with their counterparts in Executive branch.

The engineers have demanded that the State Government should make rules and regulations to bring the engineers working in different departments, boards and corporations at par with the Executive officers i.e., PCS and IAS.

On the 48th Engineers Day, the Engineers working in various departments of Punjab passed a resolution to achieve parity with the Bureaucrats. In the resolution, the Engineers said that all disparities in the pay scales of Engineers should be done away with and allowances like Hardship Allowance, Conveyance Allowance, Non-Practicing Allowance, Design Allowance, Education Allowance. Engineers have asked for incentives in the shape of special increments for higher qualification and meritorious service etc.

Manmohan Singh, Engineer in Chief, local Government Punjab said that the Engineers wanted to build an Engineers Bhawan in SAS Nagar, Mohali. The Engineer fraternity had decided to request the Punjab Government to allot a piece of land measuring about an acre as was announced by Chief Minister in 2010 on the occasion of Engineers` Day celebrations, he added.

The issue of vacancies of Engineers in different departments in Punjab has also been dealt with. The resolutions says “Vacant posts specifically in feeder cadre i.e., Junior Engineers and Sub Divisional Engineers are required to be filled at the earliest to improve the performance of engineers.”
