The State election authorities have sent the e-ballots, that is the electronic transmission of postal ballots (ETPBs), to 423 service voters of five constituencies of Punjab. This includes, four constituencies in ludhiana and one in Jalandhar.

“As per the guidelines of the Election Commission of India, electronic transmission of postal ballots have been sent to 423 service voters of five constituencies of Punjab,” said the State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) VK Singh on Sunday. Singh said with an aim to ensure that armed forces are not left behind in upcoming Vidhan Sabha elections, Electronic Transmission of Postal Ballots (ETPBs) was introduced for the first time in Punjab for the upcoming Vidhan Sabha Elections.

“This novel initiative has been implemented in five constituencies of Punjab out of which four fall in ludhiana district — ludhiana East, Atam Nagar, ludhiana Central, ludhiana North, and one in Jalandhar West (reserved),” he said. Giving further details of the ETPBs, Singh said that total number of service voters falling in these five constituencies is 423 — that is 284 in ludhiana and 139 in Jalandhar.

“These voters have been issued ballots papers electronically by the respective Returning Officers. Service voters can download these ballot papers till 5 pm on February 4, 2017, and can send them to returning officers till 8 am on March 11, 2017,” he said.

All the candidates have also been apprised of the new initiative through the required training-cum-awareness programme conducted by the DEO ludhiana and Jalandhar, said Singh.
