The elected members of Zila Parishads and Panchayat Samitis’ chairmen would elect the chairmen and vice chairmen of the Zila Parishads till August 23 in Punjab.
The State rural development and panchayats department has instructed all Deputy Commissioners to complete this process before August 23. “The newly-elected members of Zila Parishad and concerned Panchayat Samitis’ chairmen have been authorized to elect Zila Parishads’ chairmen and vice chairmen.
This election would be completed by Deputy Commissioners or the officer who should not be below the rank of the Assistant Commissioner,” said the state Rural Development and Panchayat Minister Surjit Singh Rakhra. The Minister said that this election would be done according to the reservation notification whose copy has been sent by the department to Deputy Commissioners.
