Tightening its noose on city’s Elante Mall, the UT Estate office on Thursday served a notice to its management asking why the premises should not be closed for allegedly violating the building bylaws. An official of the UT Estate office said that a notice has been served to Elante Mall and a three weeks time has been given to the management to explain their position.
“If the management fails to reply, a strict action would be taken against them,” said the official.
In an inspection, the Estate office had found that the Mall had allegedly changed the original laid down terms and conditions of allotments and altered the design. During an inspection conducted nearly two weeks ago, the constructed areas of Elante Mall were matched with original drawings and plans issued to the mall while giving clearance to them.
In a report submitted by the inspection team, it was stated that various internal and external anomalies were detected in Elante Mall. “Corridors in the Elante mall were being misused, construction has not been done according to the actual plan. The space meant for surface parking has been used for other purposes,” stated the report.
The teams had inspected more than 20 commercial buildings on the same day and had stumbled upon glaring lapses on the part of employees of Estate Office (EO) Building Branch, leading to large scale violations of building bylaws in the city.
