Elanchezhian to continue in SIT for kidney scam probe

Amidst reports of transfer of Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP), Crime, Jalandhar, J Elanchezhian, who headed the Special Investigating Team (SIT) probing the high-profile kidney racket, Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal on Monday denied such rumours.

He said that ADCP Elanchezhian will remain in Jalandhar to probe the kidney scam as a SIT member. “ADCP J Elanchezhian has been attached with Jalandhar Commissioner of Police and will be a part of the SIT comprising ADCP headquarters Alka Meena, ADCP-II Amrik Singh Powar and SHO Navdeep Singh till the completion of investigations of this racket,” said Sukhbir.

Sukhbir said that ADCP Elanchezhian would ensure proper investigations of this case and ensure it reaches logical conclusion.

SIT had already booked a doctor couple who own the city-based National Kidney Hospital, Rajesh Aggarwal and his wife Deepa Aggarwal, under sections 18, 19 and 20 of the Human Organs Transplantation (Amendment) Act, 1994, over violations of norms. Their arrest came following a report from the Director Medical and Research Education (DMRE) which hinted at procedural lapses while conducting kidney transplants.

Doctor couple — Rajesh Aggarwal and his wife Deepa Aggarwal — are still on the run, and the police have formed teams to conduct raids at their suspected hideouts across the State.
