ECI launches ERO-Net in Punjab, Haryana

The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday launched the ERO-Net, as a pilot project for Punjab along with Haryana, to simplify the process of registration and deletion of votes, filing of objections and claims by making it online.

The ERO NET (Election Registration Officer Net) would make the election related process and procedure more transparent and prompt.

From July onwards, people would be able to apply for registration as voters, deletion of votes and filing of claims and objections through ERO NET. It would also be used for the proposed special drive to register young voters between 18 to 21 years of age from July 1 to 31.

“ECI has launched a special drive from July 1 for maximisation of registration of eligible electors and removing the impurities in the rolls,” said Punjab Chief Electoral Officer VK Singh.

He said that in tune with the theme of ‘No Voters to be left Behind’, the ECI has decided to utilise the period of continuous updation for maximisation of enrolment of young electors particularly 18-19 age group by launching a special drive.

Singh said that during the campaign, which will be completed by July 31, new eligible electorates can submit Form 6 at EROs office or they can send the same by post or can submit the form online at National Voters’ Service Portal (NVSP) or this form can be submitted at Common Service Centres (CSCs).

“During this campaign, BlO shall visit door to door of the households to collect Form 6 from the applicants, particularly 18-19 age group (extendable to 21 years of age) from July 1, to 31 (except the special campaign dates),” he said.

Singh said that a user can also fill the form using mobile app — The Voter Services — available only on the Commission’s website.

He said that new voters can also contact toll free number 1950 which is linked with national and district contact centres to submit his or her application for making vote.

“Special camps will be organised on July 9 and 23 in the State in each polling station where Booth level Officer will sit with adequate number of Forms 6, receive forms from the applicants,” he said.
