To enhance the clarity of electoral rolls and standardisation of polling stations (PS) for electors’ convenience and facilitate electors’ reaching polling stations, the Election Commission has launched National Electoral Roll Purification (NERP) programme across the country with intensive verification by the Commission’s field functionaries and stakeholders’ interaction.
As per a communication received from Election Commission of India, NERP programme has been launched with twin objectives of improving health of electoral rolls (ERs) by-inclusion of all eligible citizens in mission mode and ERs to be free from errors. There would be single ER entry for every eligible elector with unique Elector Photo Identity Card (EPIC) number, said a spokesman of Haryana Chief Electoral Officer on Wednesday.
Other aspects would be removal of all Absent (A) or Shifted (S) or Dead (D) electors’ entries and Repeat Entries (REs) and ensuring Photo Electoral Rolls (PERs) with good quality correct images of every elector confirming to ECI standards. It would also lay emphasis on linking Electors with ECI by obtaining their contact details and standardisation of Sections, PS boundaries and location and improved PS map by optimisation of part boundaries with standardisation of sections using GIS technology, he said.
The motto of Election Commission of India for the year 2016 is “No voter to be left behind.”
