Efficiency, accountability and transparency of services by the people who govern, to those who are governed are the main benefits of e-Governance,” said KU Vice Chancellor lt Gen Dr DDS Sandhu while inaugurating one-day workshop on National e-Governance Plan (NeGP) at the KU.

The workshop was jointly organised by Automation and Electronic Information Management Cell (IT Cell) KU and Department of Electronics and Information Technology, Union Ministry of Communication and Information Technology.

Sandhu also added, “We need to ensure that the gap between the marginalised sections of society and those at the centre does not become unbridgeable due to lack of e-facilities with the underprivileged sections of society.”

The task of providing e-Governance to 1.2 billion citizens is a daunting one but the Government, particularly Haryana Government, has taken major initiatives in this direction.

Atray emphasised on role of digitization and gave examples of land records computerisation, e-District, HUDA E-Initiative, Police Department, Employment Bureau and many other projects introduced by the Haryana which have changed the Government-Citizen interaction.

Dr. Sunil Dhingra, Chairman of the Workshop and Incharge IT Cell KU, welcomed the guests and introduced the aims of the workshop. Dhingra said that the aim of workshop was to create awareness about e-Governance Plan (NeGP) to the faculty, employees and students of the University. About 200 participants attended the workshop.
