Senior IAS officer DS Dhesi on Wednesday took over as the 32nd Chief Secretary of Haryana. He replaces PK Gupta, who became the chief secretary for a short term of only a month. A 1982-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from Haryana cadre, Dhesi was the additional secretary in the Union Ministry of commerce and chairman and managing director of the Metals and Minerals Trading Corporation (MMTC) so far. Dhesi still has nearly four years of service left and sources say he is here to stay for some time.
Interestingly, the year 2014 saw four Chief Secretaries in the State. First it was SC Chaudhary, followed by Shakuntala Jakhu, PK Gupta and now Dhesi. Unlike the previous Bhupinder Singh Hooda Government which was in the habit of rehabilitating the retired bureaucrats, the Manohar lal Government in the State has so far desisted from giving any posts to either Jakhu or Gupta who retired after BJP Government came to power in the State.
