The in-house patient count in Doon hospital (now part of the Doon Medical College) has increased this year despite the fact that the number of beds in the hospital witnessed a decrease due to construction activity for the medical college.
The Principal Medical Superintendent (PMS) of the hospital, Dr RS Aswal presented a detailed report of the hospital which contained data on various parameters on Friday. He claimed that the number of in-patients in the hospital has marginally increased when compared with similar data last year.
“This year hospital treated 20,198 in-patients while the data last year was 20,196,’’ he said. Interestingly, the capability of the hospital to house patients decreased from 400 plus last year to 305 this year. The PMS said that this could be achieved due to more admission of patients in medicine department than surgery which required less hospitalization.
He informed that 4,33,454 new patients visited the OPDs of hospital from April 01, 2015 to January 31, 2016 as compared with 4,13,401 patients visited in the corresponding period last year. The radiology department of the hospital witnessed substantial decrease in number of normal X rays but a big jump of 15178 occurred in Digital X ray.
He said digital machines are more efficient, good to operate and emit fewer radiations than traditional ones. However the number of major and minor surgeries in the hospital decreased by 199 and 48 respectively.
Dr Aswal attributed it to transfer of surgeons of the hospital. The pathologists of Doon hospital performed 260746 tests this time which is year much higher than 257545 last year. The PMS claimed despite serving more patients, 666 patients died in the hospital which is 13 less than corresponding period last year.
