Don't surpass limit nor offend Sikhs' sentiments: Dal Khalsa to Chawla

A day after senior BJP leader laxmi Kanta Chawla expressed “deep concern” over honouring the family of former Chief Minister Beant Singh's assailant, Sikh radical outfit, Dal Khalsa, on Tuesday fired a salvo on the firebrand leader for allegedly spewing venom against Sikh martyrs and traditions.

The organisation has asked the BJP’s former national vice-president not to surpass the limits and nor offend the sentiments of the Sikhs.

Taking the BJP leader's name calling the Sikh martyrs as provocative and ridiculous, the Dal Khalsa head HS Dhami said that right from 1984, this lady has always loved to be on the wrong side of the Sikh community.

“The freedom to express one's views doesn't give her the freedom to use abusive language against Sikhs’ way and tradition to honour their martyrs,” said Dhami.

Quoting world famous phrase that one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter, he said that if the BJP, Congress or any pro-Indian party consider Beant Singh-Satwant Singh, Bhai Jinda-Sukha and Dilawar Singh as “terrorist”, it's their “perception”.

With regard to Sikhs, he said, they all are heroes as they have been declared martyrs by Akal Takht. Slamming the BJP leadership for their communal streak and sectarian agenda, Dhami rubbished the bogus claims of Chawla that films or functions to pay tributes to martyrs would disturb peace and harmony.

Dhami’s reaction came a day after Chawla expressed her “anguish” over the State Government allegedly allowing anti-national activities in Punjab. Chawla had also sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi's intervention to contain the situation. The State’s former Cabinet Minister had also expressed her “deep concern” over the honouring of the family of Dilawar Singh by the SAD-led SGPC.

Chawla had also opposed the proposal to place Dilawar’s portrait in the Sikh museum of Golden Temple, and urged the Prime Minister to intervene in Punjab before “the situation slipped out of control as the SAD-BJP alliance Government was feeling helpless to curb such activities”.
