In the backdrop of the recent rape and murder cases in Haryana, state Director General of Police, BS Sandhu on Tuesday asked the IGPs and SPs to closely monitor such cases.
Sandhu held a video-conferencing with the senior district functionaries of the police department.
Expressing concern over the incidents of rapes and murder, he directed all field units to take the cases of crime against women and children at utmost priority and put the best resources available with them to prevent and detect such offences.
Sandhu also directed that no missing report should be taken casually and prompt action should be initiated. There should be close monitoring at the level of Superintendent of Police (SP) and Range Inspector Enrage of Police (IGP) thus sending a clear message to all field officers, said he.
The DGP said that the police is serious about the safety and security of every citizen, specially women and children and under no circumstances, any lapse or negligence on part of any staff and official of any rank would be tolerated while dealing with such cases.
Following directions from Chief Minister Manohar lal Khattar to deal strictly with erring police officers, the DGP also made it clear that Police Headquarters would not desist from taking severe action against any failure in prevention or detection of such heinous offences.
He asked the range IGPs, Commissioners of Police and Superintendent of Police to strengthen and personally monitor the functioning of women helpline and involve the youth and representatives of society in fighting crimes against women.
Sandhu also directed all Senior Superintendent of Police (SSPs) and Commissioners of Police to ensure security and patrolling near all women colleges and school. They were also asked to closely monitor the investigation and trial of heinous cases of crime against women till finalization by courts.
All district SPs and DCPs were also directed to personally monitor cases of crimes against women particularly of minors and ensure prompt action on complaints being received on the helpline.
The DGP has also asked SSPs to regularly review women safety and security programmes being run by them and also keep the Police Headquarter informed about these programmes and other suggestions which can be implemented to create an environment of women safety and security in the state.
Notably, among the latest incidents of crime against women, two minor Dalit girls were allegedly raped and killed in separate incidents, barely a month after a similar case involving a six-year-old girl shook the state.
The cases of rapes and murders have jolted Haryana just days after the State Government basked in its most heartening sex ratio ever - 914 girls to 1,000 boys - and credited its “Beti Bachao, Beti Padao” campaign for the improvement.
