In a tragic road accident, two youngsters died after their motorcycle crashed into a roundabout dividing sector-42 and 41, late on Thursday.

The deceased have been identified as Akshay Kohli (25) and Poshit Kaushal (21), both residents of Phase-7, Mohali. Akshay worked as a computer engineer in HCl, while Poshit was pursuing Masters of Business Administration (MBA), in a private college. Police said the incident took place at around 12 midnight, while Akshay and Poshit were on the way to their accommodation on a motorcycle. “The bike rider must have lost control of the vehicle and collided with the roundabout. Both youngsters had sustained serious injuries in the accident,” said Inspector Ram Dayal, SHO, Police station, Sector 36.

The onlookers rushed to their rescue and also informed local police about the accident. A police team rushed them to the Government Multi Speciality Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16, where Poshit was declared brought dead  while Akshay was referred to the PGIMER, where he succumbed to his injuries, police said.Ironically, the deaths took place despite both the deceased wearing helmets. “There are chances that the vehicle collided with the roundabout due to heavy fog on the road, which reduced visibility and resulted into an accident,” added the SHO.It was not yet clear who was driving the vehicle. Police is still in a process to identify the place, from where the youngsters were going back to Mohali.
