Demanding a debate on the Governor's address, the members of Aam Aadmi Party and its ally, lok Insaaf Party — the main opposition in the House — on Monday staged a walkout, boycotting the Speakers’ election.

Soon as the process to elect Speaker started, AAP and lIP legislators intervened and askd to give time for a debate on the Governor's address.

leader of Opposition HS Phoolka said that a discussion on the Governor's address should be held “as per the Constitution”. He was supported by lIP MlA Simrajeet Singh Bains.

Pro-tem Speaker Rana KP Singh asked the MlAs to follow the rules and give some time to the new Government.

Intervening, Cabinet Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu said that the Congress was not denying a debate on the Governor's address, but “let the government to start its work first”.

Unconvinced, the AAP and lIP MlAs raised slogans and trooped out of the Assembly, 15 minutes after the start of the House proceeding for the day, for opposing the Congress government’s denial to debate the Governor’s address and postponing it to the next session.
