The very essence of holy pilgrimage is belittled sometimes by unholy acts. To increase one’s forbearance, to survive in minimal resources and to develop the spirit of bonhomie the pilgrimages are undertaken. The ongoing Kanwar Yatra which started on July 19 is also driven with the same spirit but a dispute to the level of manhandling each other and killing one 35-year- old Kanwariya on Sunday left a blot on this holy festival.
In Daulatpur village under jurisdiction of Bahadrabad thana, a group of kanwariyas were dancing on the tunes of musical system (DJ) when a tiff rose amongst them giving rise to a serious fight. One kanwariya got seriously injured. He was admitted to the district hospital where he died during the treatment.
Speaking to The Pioneer, SP city Navneet Singh Bhullar said, “In the early morning hours on Sunday the Kanwar was passing through Daulatpur village which is on the border of Haridwar and Roorkee. A Kanwariya approached the free langar (community kitchen) shed in wounded condition and alleged that some Kanwariyas were bullying him. On receiving the information, our team visited the spot and admitted the wounded Kanwariya to the hospital. It is being said that a tiff had arisen between the group members and they started fighting with each other. One kanwariya was seriously injured. He has not been identified so far though his arm shows ‘Shivam’ name tattooed. He died in district hospital during treatment.”
He further said that no identification proof or phone has been recovered from the deceased. The search for other Kanwariyas was on said the SP city.
He was attacked by a sharp edged weapon and his vital organ was damaged badly said AC Sharma, SHO Bahadrabad.
