DC orders GPS fitted vehicles

With a view to ensure safety of women employees of BPOs, call centres, trading institutions and other institutes of the corporate sector, Gurugram District Administration has made it mandatory for them to install Global Positioning System (GPS) devices in all vehicles used to ferry such employees to and from the office.

These devices will have to be installed within one month, said Deputy Commissioner, Gurugram, Hardeep Singh.

He said that Gurugram had emerged as a hub of international level firms offering IT, finance  and educational services, where a large number of women are working. These firms offer pick up and drop facilities through tie-ups with vehicle rental firms. However, as the vehicles were not equipped with GPS devices, it was hard to track them, especially in case of any untoward incident, said he.

He added that legal action would be taken against those who violate these orders.
