Dalits threaten to launch State-wide, massive drive against Haryana Govt

Published on:

Charging the State Government with adopting indifferent attitude towards the dalit communities, representatives of various dalit organizations and intellectual groups have threatened the Government to launch a State-wide massive drive against it if it fails to fulfill their demands soon.

The action was taken at a State-level Dalit Chintan Shivir, organised at Yadav Dharamshala in Jhajjar to contemplate over the present condition of the dalit communities in the State besides chalking out a strategy to get their due rights by mounting pressure on Bhupinder Singh Hooda led Congress Government.

Besides, representatives of various dalit organizations and intellectuals, people from all walks of life belonging to dalit community from different places of the State attended the shivir and stressed upon the need to make sincere collaborative and decisive efforts for the welfare of the schedule castes.

The dalits are demanding fulfillment of backlog vacancies reserved for dalits in Government institutions, reservation in promotion in Government jobs, 20 per cent reservation quota in contractual Government jobs, removal of BPl compulsion to avail the benefit of Government schemes, establishment of Fast Track Courts for speedy disposal of heinous crime cases pertaining to dalits.

Earlier, charging the State Government with adopting ‘indifference’ attitude towards the dalit communities, speakers at the shivir said the Government on the one hand was claming to be the biggest well-wisher of the dalits while on the other hand, it was virtually doing injustice to them by not fulfilling the backlog vacancies reserved for SCs in the Government institutions.

“We are struggling hard to get their backlog vacancies fulfilled but the State Government is turning a deaf ear towards it. We have so many times given representatives to the Govt to attract its attention towards this burning issue but to no avail,” said Rajesh Shastri, a dalit leader, alleging that dalits were deliberately being deprived of their constitutional rights under a deep-rooted conspiracy in the State.

He maintained that an acute resentment prevailed among the dalits across the state owing to this ‘anti-dalit’ approach of the Government which had also failed to provide them a crime-free atmosphere.

“Dalits are feeling themselves insecure and unsafe in Haryana due to the failure of Hooda Government in maintaining law and order situation here. Criminals are persistently perpetrating crime against dalits while the Government every time does not hesitate to wash off its hand from the fact stating that the law would take its own course,” said Shastri, adding that dalits would not tolerate more such sort of ‘irresponsible’ attitude being adopting by the Government against them.

Dalit leader Dr Udit Raj, Ram Dhan Advocate, Mange Ram Dahiya, Rohtas Talav, Anil Ranga, Raj Kumar Ranga, Rajender Jogpal, Bimal Prakash and Gulshan Kumar were among those prominent who expressed their views on the occasion.
