While the UT Traffic Police has failed to reduce the number of accidents on Dakshin Marg, situation at Madhya and Vikas Marg has considerably changed in the past two years.
The number of accidents has reduced at Madhya Marg from 57 to 13 this year, While at Vikas Marg, 13 accidents have been reported this year as compared to 17 last year.
Maneesh Chaudhary, UT SSP Traffic police and security said that drunken driving has been the prime reason for most of the accidents in the city. The traffic police is conducting regular check posts to curb the number of drunken driving.
The campaign against over-speeding has also helped in bringing down the accident cases at Madhya Marg and Vikas Marg. Similarly, traffic police is also focusing on Dakshin Marg to reduce the number of accidents, he said.
Apart from this, regular campaigns are being conducted in Chandigarh to make people aware about the importance of seatbelts and the helmets, added Chaudhary.
