CREST to sell power generated from SPV power plants

The proposal of Chandigarh Renewable Energy Science and Technology Promotion Society (CREST) to sell electricity produced from solar photovoltaic (SPV) power plants is likely to get a green signal soon.

A meeting to discuss the matter with Joint Energy Regulatory Commission (JERC) would be held on January 21. In the last hearing held on January 6, the Commission had directed the CREST to submit order of sanction of funds for the projects and report of actual completed cost of the projects on or before January 16, 2014. Santosh Kumar, CEO CREST said, “The CREST will send all the required documents by Thursday to JERC. A meeting in this regard would be held on January 21 and the charges to sell the generated solar power are likely to be fixed by the JERC in this meeting.”

Notably, CREST had moved a petition with the JERC to seek permission to sell the power produced to the UT Electricity Department. The CREST had sought permission from JERC to sell power to the Electricity Department at Rs 8.75 per unit. The UT Science and Technology Department has installed power plants at about 12 locations and around 2 lakh units of electricity have been produced.
