In view of the ensuing elections in some States, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Friday announced to launch a countrywide ‘Jan Andolan’ from August to March next year. Under the campaign, the party activists will take to the streets to protest against Narendra Modi-led Central Government’s policies.
“From August this year to March 23, 2016, the CPI (M) will observe the birth centenary of late left leader Harkishen Singh Surjeet and under this, the party activists will hold a Jan Andolan in the form of several kind of programmes across the country,” said party’s general secretary Sita Sitaram Yechury.
Yechury, who was on his first visit to Chandigarh after taking the charge of party’s general secretary, said that in the last Parliament session, some 50 laws were constituted without being presented to the standing committee which is dangerous for the country.
On NDA’s controversial land Acquisition Act, Yechury said that the left failed to understand why the same BJP, which supported the Act in 2013 along with Congress, is bent upon bringing amendments to it.
CPI (M) stand is clear on land acquisition that if the land of a farmer is taken away from him, the peasant should get one part of the value of land which will be in the next 20 years following acquisition, he said, adding, “Farmers should be made participants in any project or industry set up on their land.”
Hitting out at Modi, he said that the land Acquisition Act was made for “industrialists”.
Responding to a query on party’s unit, he said: “We have already started ground work in this direction. The CPI and CPM parties’ all cells including trade unions, farmers, and students have already started working collectively for one mission.”
Even as he made it clear that merger will not take place as of now, he said that they will fight together against Modi government’s policies.
He added that the different communist parties in different states including nine in Andhra Pradesh, 13 in Bengal, 15 in Maharashtra and four in Punjab has started making strategies together for ensuing time.
On birth centenary of late left leader Harkishen Singh Surjeet, Yechury said the culminating program probably would take place near March 23, 2016 at Amritsar, in which various delegates from South Asia International including Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri lanka, Nepal etc would participate.
FOR REMOVING DElHI lG
Commenting on ongoing slugfest between Delhi lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung and state Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Yechury has demanded lG’s “immediate resignation”. He said: “He has no right to interfere in the government’s working…Such interference by lG may disturb state’s federal structure which has no place in Indian Constitution…I would not only take up the issue of lG’s interference in the Parliament but also oppose it.”
ON MYANMAR ATTACK
Amidst accolades to the Indian Army for killing terrorists after crossing Myanmar border, Yechury cautioned that it “may increase risk of further terror attack by encouraging terrorists groups to attack India”.
ON YOGA
Terming observance of June 21 as World Yoga Day as “another effort to implement Hindu religious practices by the government”, Yechury said that it was not to promote Hindu religion under the garb of Yoga.
