Contract Employees' Action panel's unique plans for Punjab Govt

Published on:

The Contract Employees’ Action Committee has unique plans for the Congress-led Punjab Government days before it completes its first year in power. Visibly harassed by the Government’s “indifferent attitude” towards their demands, the Committee has decided to “honour” the Cabinet Ministers and the MlAs with the “Harassment Award” on March 9.

The Committee has decided to gave away the award to the elected representatives to register their protest against the Government’s apathy towards the employees.

Among other things, the contract employees are demanding regularisation of their services since they have completed 10 to 12 years of service which, they

claim, is clear that the Government need their services. The Committee representatives — Sajjan Singh, Imran Bhatti and Ashish Julaha — said that the Congress Government too has started adopting the approach of the previous SAD-BJP Government as it has started making false promises to the State’s youth.

“The Congress-led Punjab Government, which was sympathiser of employees and used to raise their issues and speak in their favour from time to time, has now changed its working style as it is now making false promises to them,” they said.

“Rather, the Government is going to reduce their monthly wages by 70 to 80 percent by regularising them at the minimum wages of Rs 10,300 and foregoing their 10 to 12 years of contractual service,” they added.

They also claimed that majority of them are married having one or two children and their future does not look secure.
