Continuous power supply in mandis for smooth procurement of grains

Published on:

To ensure smooth procurement of Rabi crops during the ongoing procurement season, Haryana Power Distribution Companies (Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam and Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam) has announced enhancement in duration of power supply to all grain markets (anaj mandis) in the State.

These changes would be effective from Tuesday onwards, said a spokesman of Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam.

He said that grain markets of the State will be provided with continuous power supply from 9 am to 6 pm on daily basis up to May 15 or till the completion of procurement process. This continuity of power supply will ensure that the Electric Jharnas (Power Machines) installed in Anaj Mandis remain operational and cleaning of agriculture produce is not affected. Earlier, these feeders used to be switched on for only two hours during the day time, he said.

The spokesman added adequate power has been arranged by discoms to meet the power requirement of the State during the summer and paddy season.

Notably, about 75 lakh metric tonnes (MT) of wheat is expected to arrive in the mandis of Haryana during the Rabi season-2016.
