Under severe criticism from various quarters for deteriorating law and order situation in Haryana, the Director General of Police BS Sandhu on Monday directed Commissioners of Police and Superintendents of Police (SPs) in all districts to constitute Special Investigation Teams (SITs) at their own level and initiate legal action, in case of any sensitive incident.
The DGP held a video conference regarding ‘Operation Durga’ with all Commissioners of Police, Inspectors General of Police (IGPs), SPs and Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) on Monday and directed to intensify the ‘Operation Durga’ to ensure safety of women and provide them a secure environment.
The directions came at a time when the state Police has attracted criticism following the increasing incidents of crime against women. The political parties and various social organisations have questioned women safety in the state following the gang-rape cases in Gurugram and Rohtak.
The DGP has now directed to maintain enhanced vigilance round-the-clock in districts Gurugram, Faridabad, Rewari, Panipat, Panchkula and Yamunanagar, which had larger number of woman employees.
The DGP further said that sensitisation training would be provided to Police officers and other employees dealing with cases of crimes against women at district level.
He added that a scheme is being prepared to effectively assess and rebut any information being posted on social media so that wrong information does not reach the people.
