Having registered a convincing win in Khadoor Sahib, the Assembly segment that had to go for bypoll ostensibly on the issue of sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib, the SAD-BJP alliance may have to face some tough moments in the next session of Vidhan Sabha on the issue of firing at the Sikh demonstrators at Behbal Kalan during a protest in October last year.
The main opposition party Congress has already set the ball rolling for taking the ruling alliance head on, on the issue of firing at the demonstrators in the Vidhan Sabha during the Budget session. Senior leader Sunil Jakhar and others have sent their queries for being taken up in the question hour of the budget session.
Congress leaders have demanded answer on the probe of Behbal Kalan incident and total number of bullets fired by the police personnel. The information on the authority on whose order the firing was opened on the mob has also been asked by the opposition.
The question related to the authority, who had given the command to open fire has remained under cover and government authorities have remained tightlipped on this issue till date.
Answering these questions may pose tough times for the ruling alliance and any kind of negligence on the issue can once again give a new lease to the life of the issue of desecration. The government is already in for some bitter criticism as Public commission under the chairmanship of Justice Markandeya Katju has already started its probe in the matter and is expected release its report shortly.
