Congress nominee for Zila Parishad poll shifts loyalty to SAD

Punjab Congress on Thursday suffered a major jolt in Zila Parishad elections with its official candidate withdrawing from the contest in favour of the SAD candidate. Congress candidate for Bharatgarh segment in Roopnagar district Davinder Kaur also joined Shiromani Akali Dal with her hundreds of supporters in the district.

Kaur first withdrew her name in favour of SAD, and later joined SAD along with her husband and senior Congress leader of the area Gurmeet Singh Meeta and her hundreds of supporters.

Welcoming her into the party fold, the SAD secretary and spokesman and local MlA Daljit Singh Cheema said that decision of Davinder Kaur reflects the mood of the party cadre in the Congress.

He said that Congress is coercing party cadre to contest in Zila Parishad and Block Samiti elections only to fulfill its ego of contesting otherwise workers are fed up from the working of the party which has proved to be anti- Punjab and anti- people party.
