'Congress learns no lesson from defeats'

Published on:

Mocking at the Congress’ latest tactics of fielding many of its known faces in lok Sabha polls, SAD president and Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal on Wednesday said that people vote for performance rather than ‘faces’ but Congress has not learnt this lesson even after repeated defeats.

Interacting with media during campaigning for SAD-BJP candidate from Bathinda and his wife Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Sukhbir said that it seemed that Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi was killing two birds with one stone.

“On one hand, he is trying to save the dying fire of Congress party and on the other, he is digging the pit to burry all senior party leaders. Electorate would wipe out Congress-led UPA Government for its decade-long misdoings. Manpreet Badal has committed a political suicide when he quit SAD at the beck of some Congress leaders and now he would also meet the same fate his fellow Congressmen are going to meet,” he said.

BADAl, MODI STAND EXPOSED ON GUJARAT FARMERS’ ISSUE: BAJWA

Chandigarh: Punjab Congress president and candidate for Gurdaspur lok Sabha seat Partap Singh Bajwa on Wednesday castigated Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and his Gujarat counterpart Narendra Modi on the issue of Punjabi farmers settled in Gujarat’s Kutch area.

He said that the Punjabi farmers in Gujarat are facing eviction in the absence of any concrete step having been taken to mitigate their problem, and “Damocles’ sword continued to hang over them”.

“It is ironical that Badal who, all his life, claimed himself to be champion of farmers, and in whose presence Modi, while addressing a rally at Jagraon recently, had held out the promise that no Punjabi farmer would be uprooted from his state….it does not behove these leaders to mislead people on such sensitive issue as nothing concrete has emerged till now,” said Bajwa.

PPCC chief said that the farmers’ delegation from Kutch currently visiting Punjab had once again exposed false promises given to them by Modi and Badal. “The real issue is withdrawal of special leave petition filed by Modi government in the Supreme Court against relief provided by the Gujarat High Court to these farmers by cancelling their eviction orders,” he added.

‘SONI CONTESTING HAlF-HEARTEDlY, will CERTAINlY lOSE’

Mohali: Calling former Union Minister Ambika Soni as “drawing room leader”, SAD lok Sabha candidate from Sri Anandpur Sahib Prem Singh Chandumajra on Wednesday said that his Congress rival would certainly be defeated as she was contesting polls “under party pressure”.

“Soni, who has half-heartedly decided to contest with the pressure and fear of Congress high command Sonia Gandhi, would surely be defeated because wise people of this constituency would never allow an outsider candidate to decide their destiny,” said Chandumajra.

He said that Soni was not the first choice of the Congress as the election has been forced upon her by the party’s senior leadership as it was apprehending a defeat of the previous Congress candidate Ravneet Singh Bittu.

DEVElOPMENT WOUlD BE MY POll PlANK, says SINGlA

Sangrur: After maintaining a strategic silence for few days owing to reports of replacing him with former Chief Minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, Congress candidate from Sangrur parliamentary constituency Vijay Inder Singla on Wednesday reiterated he was seeking re-election on the basis of developmental works undertaken by him during his last five year term.

“Vikas (development) is the main poll plank. Sangrur has been neglected over decades and no attention was given to bring big ticket projects to this area by earlier political representatives,” said Singla while addressing a large number of poll related meeting's in the villages falling under Dhuri assembly segment.

He said that SAD-BJP unholy alliance has no constructive agenda and can only make tall claims by holding investor summits.

Hitting hard against the alliance, he said that cartels have been created in Punjab with vested interests and mafia is calling the shots in Punjab whether drug mafia or sand mafia or liquor mafia. Every section of the society is feeling crushed and Akalis are appeasing the business lobby through ‘rahat’ certificates, he added.
