Haryana Congress on Monday held a protest and burnt effigy of Chief Minister Manohar lal Khattar after the State Government cancelled an invite to Rohtak MP Deepender Singh Hooda for 'Bhoomi Pujan' ceremony of National Cancer Institute two days back.
The party workers protested in front of the Congress Bhawan in Hisar after the State Government allegedly cancelled the invite for the ceremony at Bhadsa village in Jhajjar district.
They raised anti-Government slogans and termed the development an “insult” of democracy and of the people of Hooda's constituency. The protesters, including Congress leaders said the “cancellation is not just a mistake but a social, political and moral sin and the government should apologies for it”.
Notably, the 'Bhoomi Pujan' event on Saturday was attended by Union Health Minister J P Nadda and Chief Minister Ml Khattar among others.
The Congress alleged that the BJP Government with its action to cancel the invitation to an elected public representative at the last moment without any valid reason has hurt the sentiments of people of Haryana. It was perhaps the first time that an official invitation was cancelled in this manner, the protesters claimed.
A day before, Rohtak Deepender Singh Hooda had alleged that his invitation to the programme was cancelled at the last moment.
"As I was preparing to leave for the function yesterday, I received a call from the Deputy Commissioner, Jhajjar, who told me I should not come since my invite had been cancelled,” he had claimed.
Describing the withdrawal of his invitation for Saturday’s event, the three-time Congress MP said that it was an unprecedented act and smacks of vendetta politics. The matter will be raised in Parliament, he had said.
