Congress hits out at Chugh for 'defending the indefensible'

Punjab Congress leaders on Tuesday took a dig at the BJP national secretary Tarun Chugh for trying to “defend the indefensible” and giving a “lame defence” about his party cancelling the January 22 Amritsar rally.

“We salute your courage for so bravely trying to defend the indefensible…It is a public knowledge that the BJP ran away after Capt Amarinder Singh announced to hold a parallel rally the same day at Amritsar,” said party MlAs Rana Gurjeet Singh, OP Soni, Raj Kumar Verka, Sukh Sarkaria, Tripat Rajinder Singh Bajwa and Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, in a joint statement.

They told the BJP leader that Capt Amarinder does not need to prove his popularity and charisma in New Delhi as he has already proved it in Amritsar during General Elections.

“At least you should not be saying like that as you were very much an important part of the BJP’s campaign there…If you still have any doubts about Capt Amarinder’s charisma, you better ask your senior leader and Finance Minister Arun Jaitely,” they said.

“Even the common BJP workers know that the party leadership ran away,” the Congress leaders remarked, saying that the BJP workers were “feeling let down, demoralised and disgusted”.

The Congress MlAs said that they did not expect Chugh to be in know of such things since the decision to cancel January 22 Amritsar rally must have been taken by Amit Shah himself at the saner advice of Finance Minister Arun Jaitely who knows it too well as what it means to confront Capt Amarinder.
