Upping the ante against Punjab Education Minister Sikander Singh Maluka, Punjab Congress has vociferously demanded his resignation for various acts of omission and commission in the Education Department including purchase of books for libraries with objectionable content at exorbitant rates from an unknown publisher and science kits scam.
Protesting, a dharna was staged by Congress workers, led by former Minister and Kharar MlA Jagmohan Singh Kang outside Maluka’s residence in Sukhna Enclave Kansal on Wednesday. The protesters also gheraoed his residence.
Terming the inquiry by a retired judge as mere eyewash, Kang demanded that all these irregularities be inquired by the CBI so that truth came out and corruption could be reined in.
Kang alleged that almost all the Ministers of SAD-BJP regime were knee deep in corruption and Maluka was fourth in row, as previously Bibi Jagir Kaur, Tota Singh, Gulzar Singh Ranike had to face the heat.
Besides, Congress activists also organised protests at various places in the state demanding Maluka’s resignation and a CBI probe.
In Sangrur, Congress activists burnt the effigy of the State Government, while in Anandpur Sahib, Congress workers burnt Maluka’s effigy seeking his expulsion.
In Hoshiarpur too, a dharna was staged outside the administrative complex. The protesters demanded his dismissal and legal action. In Majitha (Amritsar) too, a protest was organised in front of the office of the block education officer.
