Congress demands inquiry into felling of trees in Aravallis

Published on:

Haryana Congress on Friday demanded an inquiry into the large-scale felling of trees in the Aravallis in utter

disregard of the National Green Tribunal notice.

A probe should be conducted into who gave and at whose behest, permission to a real estate company to fell trees in the Aravallis, said  Kiran Choudhry, leader of the Haryana Congress legislature Party.

The former Excise and Taxation Minister asked Chief Minister Manohar lal Khattar, to probe the matter and come clean on this issue.

The matter pertains to the grant of permission to Bharti land limited to cut hundreds of trees on 52-acre land in Sarai Khawaja village in Faridabad last month for a group housing project, the ClP leader said.

Pressure was exercised on junior officers to consider areas marked as open/dense scrub or scattered wooded trees in the Survey of India (SoI) map, as non-forest, Choudhry alleged.
