Congress demands I-Day memorable for farmers

Published on:

Congress has asked the Haryana Government to make Independence Day memorable for the farmers and BPl families by announcing acceptance of the Swaminthan report that the BJP swore by before the elections, and restoration of the ration sugar to 11.1 lakh BPl families in the state.

Kiran Choudhry, leader of the Haryana Congress legislature Party on Sunday said that farmers, reeling under frequent crop losses and ill-effects of the regressive policies consistently pursued by the BJP Government, deserved a deal in the shape of Swaminathan report.

The former Excise and Taxation Minister said that the fact that prices various crops fetched the farmers tended to be on the lower side has been accepted even by the Chief Economic Advisor of the NDA Government.

“Time is ripe and occasion befitting for the Chief Minister Manohar lal Khattar,  to bail out the farmers by meeting their demand for the Swaminathan report when he unfurls the Tri-colour on I-Day”, Choudhry demanded

She also asked the Chief Minister to roll back the “anti-poor-but-true-to- BJP-salt” decision to stop the supply of ration sugar to 11.1 lakh BPl families in the state forthwith.

Under the new order, only 2.62 lakh BPl families which are covered under the Antyodaya Ann Yojana will now be entitled to get ration sugar, that too only 1 kg a month per family. Manohar lal Khattar should also announce roll-back of this anti-people decision, she added.
