After the Congress fielded him from the Chandigarh Lok Sabha seat, former Union Minister and four-time former MP Pawan Kumar Bansal on Wednesday promised to work to make Chandigarh crime-free and restore its cleanliness and community parking in every sector.

Bansal, while speaking to the citizens h at his residence who came to congratulate him for his candidature, said the Congress will restore the pride and old glory of Chandigarh and make special efforts for job employment.

He said that Rajiv Gandhi Chandigarh Technology Park is an example of Congress initiatives towards development and employment where almost 51000 young youths are working and making their future brighter.

Bansal said that the city has slipped to 20th position in the Swachh Survekshan-2019 due to wrong policies of the BJP.

Congress always maintained the beauty of the city, but the quality of life here became worse over the five years of the BJP regime, he said.

The former MP also said that he is committed to making the city number one again as far as civic amenities are concerned.

He said the city roads today are broken, electricity and water problems are bane of every sector, parking is a big issue and the BJP did nothing on these issues in its five-year rule.

Bansal, who was stuck in a fierce triangular fight within his own party to get Congress’ ticket to contest the 2019 general elections, has secured the ticket for the eight consecutive time from the Lok Sabha seat. The other two ticket aspirants from the Chandigarh parliamentary seat were former Union Minister Manish Tewari and Punjab Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu’s wife and former MLA Navjot Kaur Sidhu.

Bansal had lost to BJP’s Kirron Kher in 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

Nearly 6.2 lakh voters of Chandigarh will vote on May 18 to decide their next representative.
