The party has brought to the notice of the State Election Commissioner SS Brar — the large-scale hoarding of liquor in different parts of the State, “to corrupt and influence voters during the forthcoming elections”.
The complaint read, “As you are aware, the Excise and Taxation officials seized massive hoarding of liquor at a ludhiana godown by Gaurav Malhotra and Company, who is the son of Akali MlA from Faridkot Deep Malhotra”.
It added, “Although, there were over two lakh boxes of liquor stocked illegally, the Excise officials succumbing to pressure from the Chief Minister have seized only 70,000 boxes.”
Demanding criminal proceedings against Malhotra, and his son, Congress also demanded cancellation of licence of his firm “without any further delay” in order to ensure free and fair elections.
