Cong to launch STF to protect Dalits

Published on:

Haryana Congress is planning to launch a Special Task Force (STF) to protect Dalits and members of other backward classes in the State. The task force will take up the issues of atrocities against Dalits and backward classes.

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi is said to have advised the State unit to constitute STF of its members to take up the issues of atrocities on Dalits to the appropriate conclusion.

Haryana Congress chief Ashok Tanwar, accompanied by ClP leader Kiran Choudhry said, “Manohar lal Government has been trying to brush the anti-Dalit acts of his Government under the carpet. It is being felt that a special group is required to deal with the Government machinery on such issues”.

Tanwar said the task force for Dalits is a suggestion of Rahul Gandhi and it has been discussed in the party forum.

“Schedule Caste department of the party unit has been talked to on the issue and it has been decided that a meeting will be held to constitute the STF. All the 36 biradaris will be invited and included in the task force,” he added.

Supporting the views of Tanwar, ClP leader Kiran Choudhry said, “We have serious doubts on the probe done till now and already demanded CBI probe into the suicide of the 14-year-old boy.”

She claimed that the video recording of the boy’s body clearly showed that he had been brutally beaten before he died.

She condemned the BJP Government for not being able to protect the lives of Dalits in the State who are either being hounded or forced to commit suicide. Referring to another incident of suicide committed by one Badan Singh of Bhatla village in Hissar, Kiran Choudhry said that the victim was being forced by the Police not to identify the perpetrators of a murder. And under this duress he ended his life on October 8.

“This is indeed a sorry state of affairs. Every day one Dalit is either killed or forced to commit suicide. Badan’s case comes close on the

heels of two Dalit kids being burnt alive in Faridabad and 14-year-old Govinda getting killed in Gohana. Instead of taking action against the accused and moving fast to protect the Dalits, the BJP Government is busy celebrating its one-year rule,” Kiran Choudhry added.
